Perfect Binding

Definition: Perfect Binding is a method for binding printed sheets suitable for binding documents where they are too thick to saddle stitch. This method of bookbinding where a flexible adhesive attaches a paper cover to the spine is called perfect binding.
Perfect binding puts all the pages together, roughens and flattens the edge, then a flexible adhesive attaches the paper cover to the spine.

What is it used for? Commonly used for Price Lists, Magazines, Brochures, Catalogues, and more
The minimum thickness of a perfect bound print job is approx 3mm (around 48pp). The maximum thickness is 50mm

Definition: Saddle Stitching is a method printing companies use to binding one or more printed paper sections together, by means of wire staples (stitches) through the spine and centerfold. Otherwise known as Booklet Making or Stitched.The saddle stitching is a print finishing process, is done after the paper was printed.

When is it used? Normally it is used for Brochures, Annual Reports, Booklets, Newsletters, Price Lists, and Catalogues

An image can speak a thousand words.

When designing an artwork you need to make sure what these 1000 words will be when your customer receives this product

Printing companies needs high quality images to print high quality products.

Most printers require a 300dpi (dots per Inch) quality image for high quality prints.

The lower the dots per inch are the worse the pixilation and blurry effect will be.

The fastest way to see if an image is high quality without having the expensive software to analyze it is to zoom in to the image 400%

If you see a clear image, the image will be good for printing, if you see any blurry or pixilation it is better to replace the image.

In the movies, you can sharpen and correct a blurry image to a perfect image but in real life, this is not possible.

The only way to correct an artwork with blurry images is to replace the images with high quality images.

If you do not have high quality, images you can acquire images form image vendors.

Need to Know about folded leaflets

When folded leaflets are required, please take note of the following information.
All paper cracks when being folded. When the background of  a leaflet is dark, for example, the black ink on the paper will crack and white will show through. To minimize this effect printing companies can crease the paper before folding it. Creasing is an effect of hitting paper with a blade without cutting the paper. This effect minimizes the cracking of paper but it does not eliminate it completely. The best way of preventing the cracking effect is to design the area of folding in the lightest colour possible, preferably white.
The problem starts with the 170 gsm paper stock, and then the thicker the paper, the more the cracking effect will be visible. If you are unsure about how to fold your leaflet, you can always contact our helpdesk for more information.
